Empowering your Business Spirit Initiative (EBS) -  is a 20-agency collaborative of business services providers implementing a comprehensive approach to rural entrepreneurial development in the four-county service area of North Central New Mexico. The group’s mission is to make North Central New Mexico a great place to start and grow a business in the 21st century.

In the first two years of the project, EBS provided technical assistance to 509 new clients resulting in 31 new or expanded businesses creating 299 new jobs in the region. There were 57 new small business loans made by micro-lending agencies serving the region totaling $1,132,230. 927 adults were reached with business development training programs and 242 students were reached with a variety of entrepreneurship education classes and events during 2006.

One of EBS’ notable achievements is the development of a multi-agency benchmarking tool by which all of the members of business-serving organizations in North Central New Mexico aggregate their annual economic impact in the region. These results are used to set new economic and business development goals/objectives for EBS programming in the following year.

Like many organizations, EBS’ success can be credited to the wisdom, good will, and hard work of many individual volunteer leaders. EBS is organized around a fully-representative Partnership Council that meets on a monthly basis and sets overall policy and program parameters for EBS by consensus. The Council is advised by Best Practices, Capital Access, Marketing, Policy, and Youth Committees through which EBS volunteers design and execute specific projects.
